Promote access to justice and strengthen the rule of law through provision of legal aid services for indigent individuals, especially women and children.

Human Resources

LAOA has qualified and committed staff members. It started with 6 staff members and increased its staff strength to 60 professionals in 4 years.
Recruitment process is ongoing for the new provincial offices.
KABUL: 16 lawyers, 2 paralegals, 2 legal fellows, and 15 admin staff.
Kunduz: 1 lawyer, 2 trainers, 2 paralegals, 1 monitor and 3 admin staff.
Herat: 6 lawyers, 2 monitors and 4 admin staff.

Strategic direction

LAOA plans to focus on Four Strategic Goals :
> Review and expand existing legal aid services to ensure greater effectiveness;
> Identify gaps in legal aid delivery and tailor services accordingly;
> Coordinate with other legal aid providers to meet the legal aid needs of women and children;
> Focus on increasing discretionary financial resources to improve the quality of legal aid services.
